Bio
My profile has barely realized it yet, but I did graduate from Haverford, and I have a thesis somewhere around here to prove it. I'm now at UC-Davis for my pure math PhD in topology, probably in knot theory, but that's probably not entirely my decision, per se. Josh Sabloff told me to do whatever Dmitri Fuchs tells me to do, so that's my plan so far. Fuchs hasn't said much yet; I haven't done much yet. It all works out, I guess.

To correct my journal title: actually, cobordisms are thingies that thing *smoothly* between things! (Cobordisms are absurd enough that this is a good explanation.)

My interests are fairly varied, but a common thread is that almost all of my interests involve abstraction. I find reason and rationality to be fundamental values. Moreover, I believe that emotional irrationality has a place in life with rational explanation, hence maintaining rationality. I'm not mechanical or monotonous about it, though, it's just an underlying way of thinking. I try to use these things as tools to expand and refine my thoughts, reasonings, and judgments, not as a limit or alternate and exclusive mode of operation.

My highest value is honesty. Thus, I almost never make promises: "He who promises runs in debt" (the Talmud).

Less intellectual part:
I love eating good food and making good food, usually interesting flavors from countries like Mexico, Hungary, or Japan. I like dancing sometimes.

My amusing math-dork fantasy romance line:
When I grow up, I shall be a farmer. I will sow tremendous fields of wheat. And when those fields have grown, and golden stalks whisper and sway across the horizon, I shall bring my wife-to-be to them and say, "Just as you are far from the most ordinary of women, you deserve such things that transcend the merely ordinary---and what could be less ordinary than this, an infinite golden field, of a most special and grand type of ring."

Steal it, and I eat what's left of your soul that hasn't been rotted away by your putrescent integrity.
